File a complaint with your state insurance department

Do not share claim information with us.

Please do not send HailDataHub your policy number, claim number, or any personal or claim details. Give those only to your insurance company or your state insurance department.

If your hail claim is stuck, your state insurance department can step in. Filing a complaint costs nothing, and the department asks your insurer to respond.

When to file

  • Your claim is taking too long with no clear reason.
  • Your payment looks too low, or a denial does not explain why.
  • Your adjuster stops answering calls, emails or letters.

First, try your insurer's internal appeal. Many problems get fixed there. If that does not work, file with your state.

How to file a complaint

  1. Try your insurer's appeal first.Ask your insurance company for its internal appeal or review. Write down the date, the name of each person you spoke to, and what they said.
  2. Gather what you need.
    • Policy number and claim number
    • Key dates (storm, claim filed, inspection, letters)
    • Photos of the damage
    • Letters and emails from your insurer
    • Your claim tracker from our Just Got Hit by Hail? Step-by-Step Guide
  3. Find your state below. Each card has the official complaint page and phone number for that state's insurance department.
  4. File online or call. Most states take complaints online. You can also call and ask how to file.
  5. Keep your complaint number. The department gives you a complaint or file number. Save it with your claim papers.
  6. Follow up.If you do not hear back in a few weeks, call or check your complaint status online. Keep sending new letters or emails to the department as they come in.
